Booking Conditions

1. Once you have decided which program is right for you, we recommend that you book as soon as possible to reserve your space.

2. We strongly recommend that you buy trip cancellation insurance – we cannot usually refund payments! Call Arlene Michaels (1-800 661 9762, e-mail Arlene.Michaels@atcotravel.com) and let them help you.

3. Please fill out the registration form and submit it online or mail it to our address. We require a deposit of 50% of the full trip price and all your booking information in order to confirm your booking. We cannot accept credit cards and ask for a cheque or International Money Order. We ask our European guests to pay by bank cheque or International Money Order, but can also accept payment by wire transfer.

4. After you receive our confirmation, with a detailed program, statement of account and equipment list, we ask that you send us full payment no later than two months prior to departure. The full payment must be paid by cheque or International Money Order.

From July 2010 on,please add 12% Harmonized Sales Tax to the trip price. For an $1,875 trip, this is $220.00 and brings the total to $2,100.00

5. If full payment is not received one month prior to the starting date of your program, we reserve the right to forfeit your full deposit and sell your spot to the next person on the waiting list.

6. Cancellation and Refund Policy: Bear Mountaineering cannot make exceptions to these cancellation policies for any reason, including personal emergencies and weather. There is no refund for leaving early or arriving late.

All cancellations must be received in writing. If notice is received more than three months prior to the starting date:

6.1. If you find an alternative date of the same season at the Burnie Glacier Chalet or on another of our trips, then we are happy to rebook your reservation and transfer all paid money less a $50 service charge per person.

6.2. If you just wish to cancel your trip, we will be happy to provide a full refund, less $200 handling fee per person.

6.3. If notice is received less than three months prior to the starting date, no money will be refunded.

Burnie Glacier Chalet Rental: Terms & Conditions

Groups who are responsible with the lodge and in the backcountry can rent it on a weekly basis. The price for a week for a group of ten (including the flight) is $10,500, for a weekend (Friday to Sunday) $5,500. For smaller groups, the rental can be arranged at $85 per person and day, and $450 per person for the helicopter flight ($275 per person for the floatplane flight in the summer, all based on at least three participants). This last one is strictly a stand-by rate – we cannot reserve the lodge for you at this rate. You are taking your chances.

A damage deposit of $1,000 is required and will be refunded after inspection. The rental includes the flight in and out, use of the lodge (without the guide’s room, staff rooms, and food storage room), firewood and lighting. There will usually be a care-taker at the lodge.

The flights are included, but the food is your responsibility. You are also responsible for your own safety in the backcountry. Renters are responsible for any damage they cause to the hut.

Just as a general reminder: please keep in mind that the Howsons are big and serious mountains. You must be a competent mountaineer to have fun here by yourself! After seeing that many non-guided groups are intimidated by the size and scope of the terrain, we recommend that you consider hiring a guide for your first trip (you will want to return!)
