Mountaineering at the Burnie Glacier Chalet- August
If you have experienced the Howsons in the winter, come to a totally different place in the summer. Rushing creeks, thick wildflowers, and green shrubs and trees where there was only snow in the winter will amaze you at the changes that happen here very year. There is a network of trails and bridges. There is very good cragging 15 minutes from the lodge. There is a perfect ice climbing area just above the lovely little Anderwasser lake. The glaciers look quite different in the summer, but the hospitality at the lodge is the same you are used to. And if you don’t know the place yet, here is your chance to see it in its summer glory.
In this course, you will learn all the arts of mountaineering, with a good balance between them: rock climbing, ice climbing, glacier travel, crevasse rescue, self-arrest, navigation, the art of walking through alpine terrain – in short, a well rounded introduction to the wonderful sport of summer mountaineering.
