Mountaineering Courses

We offer week-long mountaineering courses at the Burnie Glacier Chalet. From this ideal base, you will learn rock climbing, ice climbing, glacier travel, navigation and all the excitement of big mountain climbing. Come and enjoy the thrill of mountaineering in Northern BC’s wonderful wilderness.

Basic and Advanced Mountaineering courses

  • Rock climbing on our crags 15 minutes from the lodge
  • Ice climbing on the lower Burnie Glacier
  • Glacier travel (it’s hard to avoid them here)
  • Map reading, navigation with all instruments, trip planning
  • Self-arrest
  • Crevasse rescue and a few exciting ascents

Rock Climbing

If you haven’t learned to rock climb or ice climb, now is the time. We offer rock climbing and ice climbing courses, for beginners and the advanced. If you’re already intimate with the thrill of climbing, it is time to go even farther. Indulge yourself with the exhilaration of an alpine ascent of the Seven Sisters, Rocher de Boule or Copper Mountain. Some of the world’s greatest rock climbing is at your fingertips in the jagged peaks of northern British Columbia.

Custom rock climbing trips can be tailored to your interest and abilities. One guide for every two guests is a maximum.

Beginner & Advanced Rock Climbing Courses

Learn the important basics. Our training cliffs are an ideal place to learn technique.

On the granite at Chist Creek near Terrace or the basalt of Owen Hat – for beginners of all ages.

The price includes:

  • instruction
  • rental gear as required

Not included:

  • meals and accommodation
  • access
  • 6% tax

All prices are in Canadian dollars. 6% Goods and Services Tax apply to all prices. Most technical gear is included on all trips and courses. On longer trips, tents and food is also included.

Mountaineering is an inherently dangerous sport. All participants must sign a waiver.
